Preparing a
lettuce head today I was
Stopped in my tracks
My hands
unfurling the leaves no longer
Following my
command: hurry up, I’m hungry! but
Understanding
the moment as an offering, a timeless
moment
Of awe at
nature’s humble beauty
My fingers
in service, gently prising apart layers of green garment;
Leaves,
huddling like a bunch of rugby players,
releasing their grip
